Employee of the Quarter results are in!

The SLT have recently reviewed all the nominations for the Employee of the Quarter for Q1 (Jan – Mar 2019)

As ever, it was a difficult task to shortlist and pick the overall winner, the final decision is as follows:

Winner: Sarah Hammerton (Derbyshire Custody HCP) The Custody Sergeant wrote of Sarah’s actions: ‘I would like to bring to your attention the excellent work of Sarah in our custody suite today. After examination of the detainee, Sarah had noted additional bruising around the head area and noted that the positioning of the bruising could indicate a serious head injury.  She informed me that to rule out a more serious head injury that what was initially thought that the detainee would have to be taken to hospital for a scan.

As a result of this scan we were updated by officers at the hospital that the detainee did indeed have a serious head injury in the form of a bleed on the brain.

Sarah’s actions in recognising the potential injury and ensuring that the male was taken to hospital has obviously prevented a serious adverse incident in custody and saved the detainee from major life changing injury or worse’.

Runner Up:

Adam Pooley (Essex Custody ECP) – Nominated by Essex police –’I would like to say a big thank you to Adam Pooley today who possibly saved a life in custody. The Detainee had severe central chest pain and was assessed and treated by Adam. Later in the day Adam received a phone call from custody staff at Grays and notified him the detainee he sent to A&E had a massive MI

Loretta Richmond (Dyfed Powys Custody HCP) – Recognised by Chief Inspector Scrase for her resilience when supporting a female patient in Aberystwyth custody who was experiencing a significant Mental Health Crisis.

Quarter 4 (Oct – Dec 2018)

Winner: Marie Ashton (Merseyside Custody HCP). Maria was called to the Cell of a female detainee where CCTV coverage showed her in upright position slumped slightly.

Marie found that the female had her bra strap around neck and face turning blue. Moments later she started to turn blue, she was laid flat on back and CPR commenced as no breaths detected. First initial CPR was given by Marie. Shortly after, a defib monitor was applied and the instruction from monitor was to continue with CPR.  After continued efforts, the female became responsive, so CPR was stopped.

The female was conscious by the time the emergency Ambulance arrived on scene. It was later established that she made a full recovery and was discharged from hospital.

Runner Up:

Tony James (Lincolnshire Custody HCP) –Tony James acted appropriately and showed excellent clinical evaluation skills when dealing with detainee who had ingested a considerable amount of cocaine.

Marie Ibbotson (Call Centre) –  Praised by an Essex Police CDO, ‘Marie is always helpful, polite and her communication with police is always positive, is vital to maintain relationships between the different organisations involved’.

All the staff at call centre would like to congratulate Marie Ibbotson for her recognition in the Employee of the Quarter, Quarter 4.
